Drunkard’s Path Quilt Along Kick Off!! May 2013

Hi all! Are you ready to get rolling on your Drunkard’s Path? Have we kept you in suspense long enough? Good, let’s go!
Here’s our planned schedule for this awesome quilt along:
Week 1: Planning your quilt design
Week 2: Cutting and piecing methods, how to figure fabric requirements, get fabric(and templates if necessary)
Week 3: Rev up your rotary cutters, we’re cutting!
Week 4: Start sewing blocks!! Post progress, strut your stuff!
Week 5: Keep sewing, we will post some progress photos!
Week 6: Finishing
We would love some feedback on how in-depth you guys want us to go with instructions! Also, is this a reasonable schedule? PLEASE comment and let us know so we don’t lose anyone by going too fast (Kirsten is really fast!) or too slow (Tracy is really slow!)
And now on to this week’s information.
Week 1:
Planning your Drunkard’s Path Quilt Design:
First, you will need to decide on what you want your quilt to look like. There are many ways to make a drunkard’s path quilt, and your desired layout will affect the yardage you need and the cutting and piecing techniques you will use.

If you still feel like you need some more ideas, Google image “drunkards path quilt,” and you will get more ideas than you know what to do with!
Once you have decided on your quilt design, you need to decide what size your blocks will be. If you were at April’s meeting, Kirsten’s blocks were 6” finished size, with more space between the circle and the edge of the block, and Tracy’s blocks were 5” finished size with NO space (besides seam allowance) between the circle and edge of block. Check out the pinterest page for examples of this, because it will change the look of your quilt. You will need to choose a template or cutting method that matches your block choice.
Next week we will talk about the many many ways to cut and piece your blocks, plus how to figure out how much fabric you need.
