The sewing for this challenge happens on the morning of the September Meeting (9/13/25).
We are excited to host our 10th annual Make it Modern Challenge where you reimagine a traditional quilt block and make a mini. You have one week to plan and 3 1/2 hours to sew.
The Challenge
- Transform the designated traditional quilt block into a modern mini quilt.
- The block will be announced 1 week prior to the challenge.
- During that week, you can practice and post photos with the hashtag #makeitmodernPHXMQG2025
The Rules
- The mini quilt must keep at least one element of the original block.
- You can design your block and cut your fabric ahead of time but nothing else. NO SEWING, BASTING, MAKING BINDING, ETC. UNTIL THE DAY OF THE CHALLENGE.
- On September 13th, the doors will open at 9:30 am. The challenge will start promptly at 10 am. You will have 3.5 hours to finish your mini quilt.
- The quilt must be sewn (you can use fusibles while you’re making it, but the end result needs to be stitched), quilted and either bound or faced.
- The quilt must be at least 12″ x 12″
The Prizes
The members will vote at the meeting and there will be prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
