October 2022 Meeting Minutes

PHXMQG Meeting Minutes-October 8 , 2022

In Person only meeting with 42  people in attendance. There were 40 members and 2 guests.  This meeting also was preceded by a “Sew Day” with the option to come to the Pyle Center early with your sewing machine to sew and join a “Jelly Roll Race”. Raffle for Featherweight machine also taking place. 

Board Members present: Laura Flagler, Elisabet Hannafin, Cindy Stohn,  Erika Daniels and Kristin Floyd. Excused Candace Lannon. 

President Laura Flagler opened the meeting at 1:05pm

Welcome & information from President Laura Flagler- Laura welcomed all to our  PHXMQG monthly meeting. 

Laura provided information about the October 29 Virtual Workshop. Improv Log Cabin block with Cindy Grisdela will be from 10a-2p. There are still spots open, cost is 15$ per person, with remaining cost being funded by the guild. Zoom link to be sent out in advance to those that registered.

October meeting with be  “In Person” only. Saturday, October 8. Regular meeting from 1-3, with an option to participate in a “sew day” beginning at 9:00am.  

Open Positions: President and Treasurer Positions are open for the coming year. Erika Daniels (currently serving in VP role) will be stepping into the President role. Cindy Stohn has agreed to complete another term for Treasurer (2 year term). Michelle Jensen has volunteered for Vice President role. Vote took place during meeting to approve. Unanimous approval for all three positions. Applause! 

Secretary Report

  • September Minutes were posted to website. 
  •  Motion for Approval of the June Minutes was made by Lisa Cutlip, and seconded by Kate Gunter.  Minutes approved. 

Treasurer’s Report: As of October, 2022:

  • Currently $11,802.09 in bank and 1121.15 in PayPal Account. 
  • Expenses included programs, charity and rent for Pyle Center.
  • Passive fund raising via Smile Amazon and Fry’s. Cindy working to get Target approved.

  • Preliminary budget was distributed for review. Vote to approve the proposed 2023 budget, Motion by Andi Stanfield, with a second by Cecilia Dahl. 2023 budget approved.

  • Hover on My Account and click on Membership Directory – it may take a little time to load
  • To help find your friends, you can sort members by name, email, address, city, and state
  • If you are not listed in the directory, click on the “Click button to add yourself” to fill out the form
  • Remember – ONLY PHXMQG members can see this information

Community outreach

  • Diana Jacobson talked about ways that guild members could help, either cutting fabric for “kits”, binding, piecing or quilting. Please reach out to Diana if you would like to be involved. At each meeting there are opportunities to pick up quilts, drop them off, etc. 

Swaps 2022

BOM
  •  BOM is free to members; the quilt is called “Dear Gunta” a pattern by Carrie Strine. 
  • Kim shared this month’s blocks. September  Block: Row 10. 
  • Free to everyone – participation is voluntary to make a quilt for themselves, one row per month
  • It was noted there is a correction for Block 6, and it is listed on the website.

  • Since December will be outdoor meeting and Christmas party, the BOM finishes will be shared in January at the Pyle Center. Kim will try to get enough stands so that they can be displayed. 
Block lotto
  • Rich & Patti Shared November Block will be candles.  December will be Gnome (Seasonal/Holiday) Rich showed samples.  
  • October Block is the Feathers, the winner of the blocks was Diana. 
  • Please send photos and number of entries to Patti since November meeting is Virtual only. 
  • For each block you make, you will receive one chance to win the all the blocks entered. You receive an extra chance (6 chances) for every five blocks.

Sol Bee 2022

October Program Event – This months Program is  Erika Daniels showing us binding tips, and flanges! Erika went over various ways to bind quilts, including tips for cutting, Mitered corners, and creating flange edges/binding. She went over tips for clipping corners to reduce bulk and discussed machine binding on both sides. Erika was both informative and entertaining and we appreciate her willingness to share and provide such a detailed handout! 

Door Prizes!- Multiple door prize bags were given away (bags made by Erika!) and we raffled off the Featherweight Sewing machine. $595 was raised, and the winner was a client of Cindy Stohn who had stopped by.
