September 2022 Meeting Minutes

PHXMQG Meeting Minutes-September 10 , 2022

Virtual meeting with 45 people in attendance. This meeting also included the “Make it Modern Challenge” also virtual from 9:30am-12:30pm

Board Members present: Laura Flagler, Candace Lannon, Elisabet Hannafin, Cindy Stohn,  Erika Daniels and Kristin Floyd.

President Laura Flagler opened the meeting at 1:05pm

Welcome & information from President Laura Flagler- Laura welcomed all to our Virtual PHXMQG monthly meeting. 

Laura provided information about the October 29 Virtual Workshop. Improv Log Cabin block with Cindy Grisdela will be from 10a-2p. There are still spots open, cost is 15$ per person, with remaining cost being funded by the guild. Zoom link to be sent out in advance to those that registered.

October meeting with be  “In Person” only. Saturday, October 8. Regular meeting from 1-3, with an option to participate in a “sew day” beginning at 9:00am.  The Program will be Erika Daniels showing us binding tips, and flanges! The day will also have a “jelly roll race” see recent newsletter for more details, including supply list. You are able to bring your machine to join along in the binding fun. We will also be raffling off a gorgeous Featherweight Sewing machine. Must be present to win, and cash only on day of meeting. 

Open Positions: President and Treasurer Positions are open for the coming year. Information about job responsibilities are available on website in Bylaws, and in Policy & Procedure Manual. Please also feel free to reach out to anyone on the board for  more information about the positions! Since we have not had any interest the vote will be delayed. Board is working through contingency plans. 

PHXMQG Summer Splash Destash (Continued)

  • Thanks to all who have shopped! It has been a big success. 
  • October meeting we will continue the sale by selling fabric and notions as one of our main fund raising events for PHXMQG. Prices in October will be reduced to $5/lb for fabric!
  • This event raises money to be used for guild programs

Secretary Report

  • August Minutes were posted to website. 
  •  Motion for Approval of the June Minutes was made by Claire Victor, and seconded by Carol Dempsey. 

Treasurer’s Report: As of September, 2022:

  • Currently $10,304.48 in bank and 844.07 in Paypal Account. 
  • Expenses included programs, charity and rent for Pyle Center.
  • Passive fund raising via Smile Amazon and Frys. Cindy working to get Target approved.

Break Out Rooms via Zoom: We did 2 breakout sessions via Zoom Rooms to give the build a chance to get to know each other more. We were in groups of 6, with various getting to know you questions. This was a good experience, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. 

Vote for Annual Dues:

We took a vote to keep annual dues the same at $45. Passed unanimously.

  • Hover on My Account and click on Membership Directory – it may take a little time to load
  • To help find your friends, you can sort members by name, email, address, city, and state
  • If you are not listed in the directory, click on the “Click button to add yourself” to fill out the form
  • Remember – ONLY PHXMQG members can see this information

Community outreach

  • So far in 2022, 53 quilts have been made and have been donated, or in process of being donated! 19 other items have also been created for donation. Such a great show of support to our larger community. 
  • Diana Jacobson has committed to be the Charity Quilt chair, since Bonnie has stepped down. Diana introduced herself and shared ideas for future chances to have members contribute, such as at the upcoming Sew Day on October 8 before the meeting. If you are interested in helping, please contact Diana! Thank you for stepping forward and representing the guild!

Swaps 2022

BOM
  •  BOM is free to members; the quilt is called “Dear Gunta” a pattern by Carrie Strine. 
  • Kim shared this month’s blocks. September  Block: Row 9, a good month for glue basting and spinning seams.  
  • Free to everyone – participation is voluntary to make a quilt for themselves, one row per month
  • It was noted there is a correction for Block 6, and it is listed on the website.

Block lotto
  • Rich & Patti Shared September Block was Halloween. Kelli Williams was the winner of the blocks. 
  • October Block is the Feather, requested to keep light gray background with dark binding.

  • For each block you make, you will receive one chance to win the all the blocks entered. You receive an extra chance (6 chances) for every five blocks.

Sol Bee 2022

September Program Event

  • Make it Modern Challenge was the Rail Fence Block. There were 9 people that participated. A vote was taken for the winner, it was Diana! So many variations, they were all lovely and pictures are posted on our Instagram and Facebook pages. Thank you for participating! 
Door Prizes!- Pat McDaniel was the winner of the Door Prize this month. She chose a Gift card to Modern Quilting!
