3rd Swap - Zipper Glasses Case

Saturday, September 12, 2026

Another fat quarter/layer cake/scrap friendly project, now with zippers!

Material Requirements:
1 x 10” x 10” Outer fabric
1 x 10” x 10” Lining fabric
1 x 10” x 10” Fusible Foam (other options discussed in the pattern)
1 x 25” zipper (size 3 or size 5 – one zipper makes two cases if you have two pulls)

Optional: D-ring or swivel hook (pictured in examples, not in the pattern)

NOTES:

  • The amount/type of quilting you do on the outside will affect the finished size, but don’t worry – the sizing is very generous.
  • Do not skip the topstitch in step 5, it is important to the structure. I used an open toe foot and it slid right along in the space between the zipper edge and the fabric.
  • Step 8 recommends using a zigzag to finish the inside edge after the straight stitch – I tried an overlock stitch and it worked (so would a serger). If you can’t live with exposed edges, I made bias tape and it worked well – see example.
A French seam does not work fine. Trust me.
