November 2014 QuiltCon 2015 Charity Quilt Challenge
For our November workshop we will be making blocks for the QuiltCon Charity Quilt Challenge! We also need volunteers to quilt and bind our quilt. Please let us know if you can help. The finished quilts will be displayed at QuiltCon and then sent back for donation to local charities.
The challenge for this quilt is for the guild to use a predetermined color palette and an alternate gridwork design. We will be using colors and block placement to bring out the colors of the desert. The guild will be providing the patterns for 6 inch and 12 inch paper pieced blocks and solid background fabric (Kona Glacier). Participating members are asked to bring coordinating solids or prints in the colors below.
*Note – While the MQG lists various whites we want our quilt to have a strong emphasis on the colors found in the desert landscape/sky so please limit your white/low volume fabrics.
Here is a sample block I made using the blue background fabric and prints from my stash. The block is made of four paper pieced sections that are sewn together.
We will also have a demo on how to paper piece for anyone who wants to learn a new technique or needs to brush up on how it is done. Quiltworx also has a good tutorial to help you out. http://www.quiltworx.com/techniques/paper-piecing-tutorial/
