January Meeting Minutes

PHXMQG Meeting Minutes- January 13,2024

In Person meeting,  1p-3pm Escalante Center, Tempe. 43 members and 6 guests in attendance.

Board Members present: Erika Daniels,  Cindy Stohn,  Pam Meylor,  Michelle Jensen,  Elisabet Hannafin and Candace Lannon. 

President Erika Daniels opened the meeting at 1:05 pm

Presidents Report – Erika Daniels

President Erika Daniels- who welcomed all to our  PHXMQG monthly meeting. New members and guests were welcomed. 

Sew and Chat

There was a vote taken for continuing Zoom Sew & Chats for 2024 – Erika will look into availability of Board Members to host.

Raffles for 2024– Laura Flagler

Laura is overseeing Raffle Baskets for 2024, she has one month available for this year, please contact Laura if you are interested.   Funds raised go to programs for the guild, tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.  

Secretary Report – Pam Meylor

No meeting minutes from December 2023 Meeting/Holiday Party.

The 2022 Charity Quilt that did not sell at Quiltcon- was displayed and tickets were available for purchase at the meeting 5$ each or $50 for 12 tickets.  Winner of the Quilt was Gretchen McDowell.  Total raised for the quilt was $848.22.

Block Lotto – Andi Standfield

January: String Blocks Entries: 22 Winner: Susan Taubel

February Meeting is virtual, there will not be a block lotto.  March Block Lotto pattern to be announced.

Block Lotto is a chance for guild members to win all the blocks made for that months lotto.  For each block you make, you will receive one chance to win the all the blocks entered.  You receive an extra chance (6 chances) for every five blocks.

Member Outreach – Erynn Truex

Erynn will be at the sign in desk with Laura at the in person monthly meetings.  Erynn is coordinating a Mug Club that will pair members up and she is also organizing a monthly birthday recognition program.

Erynn will be putting together a list for members traveling to Quilt Con 2024.  If you are attending this February and would like to meet up with other PHXMQG members please contact Erynn.

Treasurer’s Report: – Cindy Stohn

Cindy presented the treasures report for Year To Day – link is HERE.

Community Outreach – Diana Jacobsen

Organizations PHXMQG is currently contributing to are Devereux Advance Behavioral Health, One and Ten, Hushabye Nursery, and Jewish Family Services.  Deverux Advance Behavioral Health is the newest organization to join our outreach program.  Diana showed newly donated handmade items at the meeting.

Block of the Month – Barb Brandt

BOM is free to members.  2024 Block of the Month is “L is for Quilt” by Sarah Ruiz and is a free pattern for members through the Modern Quilt Guild website.  Barb Brandt is leading BOM again this year.  The pattern link is posted on PHXMQG website, and we will be working in sections.  This pattern is beginner friendly.

2023 BOM was Lucky Cuff written by Dorie Blaisdell, Barb Brandt had participants bring their quilt and quilt tops to the January meeting to share with the guild.  There were 12 quilts on display.

Programs 2025 – Erynn Truex

2025 Guild Programs will be coordinated by Erynn, if you have any workshops or teachers to recommend please contact her.  Erynn/The Board to determine what else we can do, based on room rental or zoom. We have money in our bank account that we would like to be able to enjoy some fun events!

Vice President Report – Michelle Jensen

Michelle reviewed the Make it Modern challenge that will be taking place this upcoming October.  This year the challenge will be in person at the Escalante Center.   

SOL Bee – Francine Taylor

Francine has started sign ups for the 2024 SOL Bee, there are currently 6 spots available.  Each month members take turns being the “Queen Bee” and supplying the other members with a pattern or instructions and materials to complete a quilt block.  Traditionally, the members return a completed block at the next month’s meeting. 

PHXMQG April 2024 Meeting all Queen Bees from previous years are invited to bring their SOL Bee quilt to show at that meeting.

Next meeting is Virtual from 1-3pm.
