Phoenix Modern Quilt Guild Meeting Minutes

Secretary Rebecca Whaling called the meeting to order at 1:13pm. Approximately 25 people were in attendance. 

Thank you Johnie for snacks.

New member Mary was welcomed.

Secretary’s Report

  • August meeting minutes approved.

PresidentVice President Report

  • October Meeting
    • Slow-Stitch Saturday
    • Location – Outdoors at an urban farm in Gilbert owned by a friend of Treasurer Chelsa (address and directions to be sent via Member Newsletter)
    • English Paper Piecing & Needle Turn Applique Demos
    • Bring a chair or quilt to sit on
    • Mini Quilt Swap
  • QuiltCon 2016 Charity Quilt – Meet ups will be set up to work on piecing the improv quilt
  • Libs Elliott Workshop in November
    • Supply List will be sent to participants
    • Location will most likely be the Chandler PD Community Room
  • November Meeting
    • Voting for 2016 Guild Board
      • Roles of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer explained
      • Detailed newsletter will be sent to members including how to be put onto the ballot
      • Board members can serve for a maximum of two years so most of the current board is not eligible to serve again in 2016
    • Triangle Challenge of the Quarter Due

Announcements

  • Bernina Connection is hosting a trunk show and full-day workshop by Jessica Darling in October. Lecture – Progress over Progression Friday, October 16 6p – 8p $10; Color Party Workshop Saturday, October 17 10a – 3p $50
  • Quilter’s Oasis is hosting a trunk show and book signing on January 19th for Jackie Kunkel’s new book Splash of Color: A Rainbow of Brilliant Black-and-white Quilts
  • Thank you to Holly Hughes for securing a collection of Lucky Spool books to start a guild library. All Lucky Spool asks in return is for those who check out the books leave their honest review on Amazon.
  • Reminder that the MQG offers live webinars on a variety of quilting and guild topics. Past webinars are available in the MQG Resource section.
  • If you are an Instagram user and participating the in October Mini Quilt Swap use the hashtag #phxmqgswap to tag photos of your work in progress or even a mosaic of ideas for your swap partner.
