April Meeting Minutes

PHXMQG Meeting Minutes- April 13, 2024

In Person meeting,  1p-3pm Escalante Center   49 people in attendance 5 guests and 2 new members.

Board Members present: Erika Daniels, Cindy Stohn, Pam Meylor,  Michelle Jensen and Elisabet Hannafin. 

President Erika Daniels opened the meeting at 1:04 pm

Erika welcomed all to our PHXMQG monthly meeting. New members and guests were introduced. 

Laura Flagler invited members and guests to purchase tickets for the raffle baskets donated by member Francine Taylor and Meya Cox.  Funds raised go to programs for the guild, tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5.  

Members were reminded of the sign up for the May program, Puzzle Balls.  Also the Jenny Haynes workshop is now live on the website and there are 14 spots left.

Secretary Report – Pam Meylor

Meeting minutes from March 2024 minutes approved – first -Sarah Hinz  and seconded by Meya Cox.

Pam asked for members with sewing related business to please send information to [email protected] email so she can update the website.

Block Lotto – Bonnie Bobman

April Block: Disappearing Nine Patch: Entries:18 Winner: Sarah Hinz

Block Lotto is a chance for guild members to win all the blocks made for that month’s lotto.  For each block you make, you will receive one chance to win all the blocks entered.  You receive an extra chance (6 chances) for every five blocks.

May Block – Improv Bubbles – unfinished the block will be 8.5inches.  Instructions for the block are in a PDF on the guild website.

Member Outreach – Erynn Truex

Erynn has coordinated a program for members to get to meet new people in the guild, details were emailed to members who signed up.

Community Outreach – Diana Jacobsen

Dianna has kits available for members to take home.

There were two large jars offered for members to take with precuts to take home and make Community Outreach projects.

Block of the Month – Barb Brandt

2024 Block of the Month is “L is for Quilt” by Sarah Ruiz and is a free pattern for members through the Modern Quilt Guild website.  Barb Brandt showed April blocks A6 & A7 at the meeting. Participants in the BOM showed their March blocks to the guild.

Next month’s program is Puzzle Ball.

SOL Bee – Francine Taylor

PHXMQG Queen Bees brought their SOL Bee quilts from previous years to show at the meeting.

Francine updated the Guild on the Airport Display for 2025.  The airport has given case sizes for quilts, we are waiting on how many cases will be dedicated for quilts and other information from the Airport Curator.

Program – Claire Victor

Claire Victor introduced our April program, Demo Day.  Several of our talented members gave short demonstrations on quilt and sewing related techniques.

Next meeting is at the  Escalante Center in Tempe from 1-3pm.
