“Ode to Landfill repurposes soon-to-be garbage (fabric scraps, upholstery remnants, discarded textiles and my grandmother’s old sheets), transforming them into a dense, textured quilt filled with waste fabric instead of traditional batting. The quilting features a
56-line poem created by OpenAI-ChatGPT, which reflects on consumerism and wastefulness. This piece challenged me to reconsider the life cycle of everyday materials, pushing the boundaries of quilting by turning what would be trash into something useful. As an artist, I explore the intersection of waste and creativity, using discarded materials to challenge consumerism, inefficiency and the value of time in the creative process.”
